Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
The Department reviews development plans for compliance with various County ordinances and is responsible for enforcement of the County's Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance and the local Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act. The Department is responsible for long-range planning through the development and review of the County's Comprehensive Plan. In addition, the Department provides mapping and E911 addressing services for the County.
Staff Support
The Department of Planning and Zoning provides staff support to:
- Board of Supervisors
- Board of Zoning Appeals
- Economic Development Authority
- Planning Commission
- Wetlands Board
Support includes reviewing and providing recommendations on all land use matters presented to each Commission and Board.
Staff
The Department is managed by David Kretz, Planning Director, who reports directly to the County Administrator.
Comprehensive Plan Adopted
The Middlesex County Planning Commission has finalized and adopted the Comprehensive Plan (PDF).
